Another exciting test in prospect. Hayden continued his misadventures to bring in Ponting, who faced a pretty harsh test from Dale Steyn pre-lunch. Steyn was unlucky to have McKenzie drop a simple one from Ponting. But post-lunch, the MCG was drenched with all those beautiful Ponting drives in a hundred that came at a quick pace - just 126 deliveries.
Once Ponting got out, Australia’s recent issues began to crop up with no one really hanging around. Symonds and Haddin attacked while they were there briefly, while Michael Clarke crawled to an excruciating 36 off 157 balls. He was not out after a nervy final-over-of-the-day and will resume tomorrow in Brett Lee’s company.
