Watch cricket highlights from the 2nd Mohali test - India vs England - 2nd day’s play.

Brief Highlights also available in Video:
So Rahul Dravid unassumingly got to a hundred - At the time of the event, seeing his downplayed celebrations I wondered if he was waiting for his double to really let it all out. A misplaced thought it appears, because in a post-play interview he accepted that all the rumblings about his form were probably justified - a unique reaction from an Indian cricketer. How many times in the past have we heard statistics being reeled out to justify formless cricket by a player.

Gautham Gambhir continued to pile on the runs this year and got involved in some banter with James Anderson before getting himself out. His best moments today were mostly against the spinners, while being streaky against the English pacers who bowled brilliantly without luck in the morning session. Andrew Flintoff in particular was standout. He had a fantastic spell of fast bowling (clocking around 148-152 km/hr) vs Yuvraj Singh. It went on for several overs with Yuvraj watchful and not scoring a single run. Flintoff should have had him, if it weren’t for Alistair Cook dropping a simple one. All Cook seems to have done in this series on the field is tumble around balls that speed past him, and bore everyone with his batting. And to think this guy was groomed to be a future England captain.

India tottered after the fall of Dravid and Gambhir and there was meaningless cricket towards the end of play with no declaration and hardly any runs scored. Dhoni yet again got out just when he gave off the impression he was about to explode. Though he has played some very important steadying innings over the last year and a half, save for an IPL match at Bangalore, Destructive Dhoni seems to have gone the Samson way.

India came out to field and then had the umpires send them back due to poor light. Though the light did improve a couple of minutes later, the rules specify that since the players left the field after the scheduled close of play (4:30 IST), they couldn’t come back on (as very lucidly explained by David Lloyd on air).

The Australia vs South Africa Perth Test is heading into a cracker of a day tomorrow, with Graeme Smith leading the run chase. Will post highlights later on from the 4th day’s play.

Lunch Time: At the time of this post, Rahul Dravid had reached his 26th century and was in the middle of a 250 run partnership with Gautham Gambhir. Yesterday when the two completed a 100 runs together, Rahul Dravid had the unique record of being involved in his 73rd century stand - the most ever in the history of test cricket. Something about Dravid’s demeanor on reaching his century today tended to confirm what was speculated as a possibility here after Day 1’s cricket - a double hundred to emphasize his return to test cricket run scoring.
