KP almost pulled it off - a hundred in his first international knock after the captaincy drama. But a fantastic and important knock that makes statistics like a century fade away. Coming in with England tottering, Pietersen was watchful in parts before pulling out his trademark stuff. Ian Bell who has Owais Shah breathing down his neck started off with some cool shots and then got stuck a bit before being prised out by Chris Gayle. Having reached 236 by end of day’s play, primarily through the KP knock, England will be hoping Flintoff can extend his 43 with a bit more aggressive strokeplay today.
